Overview
The episode discusses the thrombotic complications of COVID-19 and describes the effects of COVID-19 on the heart. It will also compare and contrast the types of myocarditis related to COVID-19.

°®ÎÛ´«Ã½Dr. Patterson is a Professor of Medicine/Infectious Diseases and Associate Dean for Quality & Lifelong Learning at The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, °®ÎÛ´«Ã½. She is clinician and a healthcare epidemiologist and has served on the Infectious Diseases Society of America Board of Directors and is Past President of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. She is a longtime infectious diseases consultant to Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) and has also served on CDC’s Healthcare Infection Practices Advisory Committee and has been a consultant to San Antonio Metro Health Department. She has been a site principal investigator for new antimicrobial agents and is currently a co-investigator for the NIH Adaptive COVID-19 Treatment Trial (ACTT) studies as outlined above and is a sub-investigator for the Novavax SARS-CoV-2 vaccine trial at °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ and University Hospital.

°®ÎÛ´«Ã½Allen S. Anderson, MD, FACC, FAHA has just assumed his new role as Chief of the Cardiology Division and Professor of Medicine (tenure) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas San Antonio. Formerly, he was the Medical Director of the Center for Heart Failure in the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Medicine and Chief of the Section of Heart Failure and Transplant in the Division of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. His research interests include the non-invasive assessment of heart failure and cardiac transplant patients, valvular heart disease in heart failure patients and the development of novel therapeutic approaches for advanced heart failure patients.
Dr. Anderson, a Georgia native, graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine. He completed internal medicine training, including a chief residency, at New York University/Bellevue Medical Center, followed by general cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago and one year of advanced heart failure/transplant training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.
